Hudson's Malamutes - Frequently Asked Questions

22.a. Why do you refer me to my own breeder when I ask you a question about my Malamute?
22.b. Why do you refer me to my veterinarian when I ask you health questions about my Malamute purchased from a different breeder?
There are several reasons why I won't:
  • diagnose possible health issues in other breeders' dogs
  • answer temperament issues with other breeders' dogs
  • discuss whether a male purchased from another breeder, would live well with a male purchased from a different breeder
  • answer various other specific questions about Malamutes purchased from other breeders
I don't know their dogs personally and I don't know their pedigrees and I don't know any issues they may or may not have had with their bloodlines, or how they socialize their dogs. It is a waste of your time and mine to speculate on all of the possibilities.

You paid that breeder for the dog, part of the payment is for that breeder to support you with issues related to health and temperament.

If the breeder in question will not do the research on issues she hasn't encountered before, you need to call your veterinarian & get the dog in to her to find out the answers. The veterinarian can examine the dog, perform any necessary tests and give you qualified answers on your Malamute's health issues.

If you do not want to pay a veterinarian, but want to do research first, check out this link (provided on my Malamute Links page) -

There are no shortcuts or free rides in this world, and it's true with the care and training of, and learning about Alaskan Malamutes.

Believe it or not, there are some people who bought their dogs for cheap prices and when they don't get the answers they need from their breeder, evidently do not want to spend the money with a veterinarian to find the real answer. They apparently think they can get a "free" answer from me, and get angry when I don't have answers for them. It always makes me shake my head. Then they further amaze me when, in their anger, they accuse me of not caring about their pups only money, because I'll only support my customers. Yet, in the end, it seems to me, they are the ones who only care about money, because they won't spend it to find out the issues their dog has, or to buy a dog from a reputable breeder who will support them.

I support my customers with temperament and health issues.
I know my dogs personally
I know my bloodlines well
I take the time to research situations I had not previously encountered.
I spend the money for veterinarian consultation, and work with university veterinarian departments to get real answers.
I network with other reputable breeders.
That takes a lot of time, effort and money.
As a professional, that's part of my job for my customers and for the continued good health of my dogs. My dogs deserve and have a right to that. My customers expect that from me, and I welcome their questions and work with them so their Hudson's Alaskan Malamute is a healthy, well-mannered, happy dog.

If you bought your dog from a breeder who will not take the time to help you and will not expend any effort to help you (let alone the money), please consult a veterinarian. That is what they are there for. That is why they spent years getting educated. They are your resource for help. Unfortunately, I do not have an Alaskan Malamute crystal ball that tells me what the issues are with every Mal in the world. That doesn't mean that I don't care about Mals I didn't breed, it means I don't have the means to help you.

Psalm 115:1
Not to us, O Lord, but to you goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.
